“The more you overthink, the less you will understand” – Habeeb Akande
One of the questions that I often get asked from people who are thinking about creating an online course is “how can they find time in their day to do this alongside all their other commitments?”.
It’s a great question because our time is so valuable & limited and oversubscribing ourselves to lots of different things can leave us feel exhausted.
In this blog, I am sharing 6 productivity tips to help you get more time back in your business. The tips that I’m going to share will help to increase your productivity. These tips will help you to maximise your effort so that you can get more done in less time.
Tip 1 – Write out your big goal and what it will mean to you once you have achieved it
I want you to get clear on your why you are doing what you’re doing – what is it all for? The clearer we can be on what we want, the more connected we will feel to it. It also means that we will need to take ownership for what’s important to us.
Get really clear on what life will be like once you have achieved your dream. The clearer you are, the more attached you’ll feel to your goal. Use this to motivate you so that when the last thing you want to do is work on your online course, you know you need to because it’s bringing your dreams to life.
Tip 2 – Plan ahead
When we decide to start a new project we need to have a plan in place so that we can work towards achieving our outcomes. By creating a simple plan, you are more likely to stick to it especially if you add it to your calendar because if it’s in your diary it will get done.
Think about choosing a day in the week where you work on your online course. If you choose the same day and time every week and then put it in your diary as a non negotiable, then what will happen is that you will start to show up every week ready to work.
Tip 3 – Make daily focus lists
What I recommend is that you create a daily focus list that lists out your top 3 – 5 tasks for that day. Don’t make a long list because the chances are you won’t complete everything on the list. By reducing your list down to say 3 to 5 tasks, you are just focusing on the tasks that need to take priority.
The focus list is a list of specific tasks that you need to complete each day. If you write this list at the end of each day then you start your day knowing exactly where your focus needs to be. Where focus goes, success flows – don’t worry about how much time you spend on everything.
Tip 4 – Work out which part of the day that you are most productive and block time into work on your course during that period
Every person is different and has different periods of time in which they are at their peak mental state. By figuring out when you are at your most optimum, you can then use this to help you be more productive. Some people are able to work better early in the morning and others may get a burst of energy in the afternoon.
Tip 5 – Get rid of distractions
There are so many distractions around that can stop us from getting things done. Social media is a great example of this. Just by simply putting away your phone, closing down apps and distancing yourself from your inbox, you will instantly get time back because you are not being distracted.
Tip 6 – Batching tasks
When we multi task, we can get caught up doing things that take us away from what we should be doing. The human brain functions better when it is focused on one thing at a time. If we constantly switch between tasks, it can affect our mental capacity so if we batch create as we go, we are more likely to work more efficiently and get the job done quicker.
I hope you found these tips of value… give them a try and see how it improves your productivity. Remember your business is the vehicle to your dreams but it doesn’t mean you have to be chained to your desk for this to happen. It’s time to take back control and get that online course created so that you can start making your business work for you.
